About The Artist

I have been painting and drawing since childhood. My architect/designer parents taught me composition, perspective and color theory; encouraging my joy in creating. At the Detroit Institute of Arts I studied techniques, materials and styles with Cyril Miles, The DIA's collection taught me about art history and has remained a life-long source of inspiration, I also studied art at Cranbrook Institute, the Roeper School and the Bloomfield Hills Art Association.

In addition to drawing and painting, I studied theater from age six and acted professionally till age 14. I fell in love with modern dance and, with the tremendous time, energy and commitment dance training demands, I spent less time painting and drawing. I received scholarships to Interlochen Arts Academy and The Juilliard School and went on to a successful, international dance career based in New York City.

After touring for 15 years, I joined the University of California, Santa Barbara. I served as Vice Chair of the Department of Theater & Dance and as Artistic Director of the university's professional resident dance company, Santa Barbara Dance Theater.

During this period I renewed my focus on painting, studying at the Riviera Fine Arts Center and with Peggy Zehring, a protogé of Elaine de Kooning. I exhibited my work in solo and group shows and designed costumes and scenery for stage productions.

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

Inspiration

I paint to discover. Color, light and motion fascinate me,  As a visual and theater artist, I view a blank canvas, like an empty stage, as a space to play, explore, and express that which is beyond words.

Techniques

I love to play with color interactions. I am excited by translucency and its suggestion of spatial depth, passage of time and liminal perception. Some images, emerging from meditative and/or playful states, lean into metaphysics. For the series "Motion" I worked in a full-body, gestural meditative practice.

career highlights

Following an international performing career, I have exhibited paintings and sold them to private collectors across the United States. Works are grouped as "Penumbrae" (light, shadow and color), "Motion" (kinetic) and "Figurative" (representational). Other series continue to arise.
